Instant Coffee

Japanese American chemist Satori Kato of Chicago first invented instant coffee in 1901

In 1906, an English chemist, George Constant Washington, marketed the first mass-produced instant coffee known as "Red-E Coffee".

Two of the most popular instant coffees in the world today are Maxwell House, produced by General Foods, and Nescafe, produced by Nestle.

Maxwell House first appeared in about 1892, and was produced by Joel Cheek.

In 1907, President Theodore Roosevelt is said to have declared the brew to be "good to the last drop", and this became the brand's registered slogan in 1926.

Nescafe was introduced by Nestle in 1938 after a number of years of research. Nescafe was also the first company to introduce Freeze Dried Instant Coffee.
